KOKOMO, Ind. —Nearly 60 Indiana University Kokomo students were honored for academic excellence in fields ranging from radiologic science and communications, to nursing and political science, with induction into honor societies.
The honored students included seven selected as charter inductees for the campus’ newest honor society, Pi Sigma Alpha national political honor society.
Todd Bradley, associate professor of political science, serves as advisor for the Alpha Lambda Xi chapter.
“Students inducted into the honor society will be that much more competitive in terms of their graduate school applications in political science,” he said. “It will help us continue to attract students to our program and build our major in history and political science.”
Those selected must be in the top third of their class, and have completed at least 10 credit hours of political science with at least a B average.
Inductees include Elijah B. Mollet, Bedford; Hannah Bourne, Bunker Hill; Kathryn Elaine Kaster and Dalton Brian Clarke, Kokomo; Robert Eugene Moore, Macy;
Stephen Frederic Good, Mulberry; and Kathryn Mary Matthews, Westfield.
Beta Gamma Sigma honorary for business
Twelve students earned induction into Beta Gamma Sigma honorary for business.
Undergraduates must be in the top 10 percent of their class to be inducted, while graduate students must be in the top 20 percent.
Graduate student inductees included Mohammed Alfaifi, Rayan Almofadda, and Mark Renken, Kokomo; and Nicole Wilcox, Sharpsville. Wilcox also earned the distinction as an undergraduate student.
Undergraduates inductees included Conner Norman, Crawfordsville; Shelby Beltz, Shelbi McKinley, Tearsten Munson, Shawn Pietrzyk, and Valerie Talbot, Kokomo; Taryn Stockberger, Rochester; and Austin Miller, Sweetser.
Lambda Nu honor society
Four students earned selection for the Indiana Gamma Chapter of Lambda Nu honor society, which rewards academic excellence in the radiologic and imaging sciences.
Inductees included Quinlyn Hochstedler, Greentown; John Schafer, Lafayette; Ashley Hawkins, Russiaville; and Kristen Shoemaker, Westfield.
To be considered for membership, students must have a minimum of a 3.30 grade-point average (GPA) and be a current member of the Indiana Society of Radiologic Technology and of the American Society of Radiologic Technology. Each one also must be an active member of the campus Medical Imaging Club.
Lambda Pi Eta honorary for communications
Seven students were inducted into the Lambda Pi Eta honorary, for communication arts.
Inductees include Allison Ault, Russiaville; Hannah Bourne, Bunker Hill; Alexandria Davis and Dustin Gamblin, Kokomo; Joshua Macy, Westfield; Kayla Oyler, Marion; and Holly Ware, Rossville.
To be selected, students must meet national criteria, including ranking within the highest 35 percent of one’s class in general scholarship, and having a minimum 3.25 grade point average in communication studies classes.
Lambda Pi Eta is the National Communication Association’s official honor society at four-year colleges and universities. IU Kokomo’s chapter is one of more than 450 nationwide. Its goals include recognizing and rewarding outstanding scholastic achievement in communication studies, and to stimulate interest in the field of communication.
Sigma Delta Pi honorary for Spanish
Nine Indiana University Kokomo students were honored for achievement in Spanish language, with induction into the Omega Upsilon chapter of Sigma Delta Pi, the collegiate national Spanish honor society.
Those selected must have completed at least three years, or the equivalent, of college-level Spanish, with an average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale in those courses, rank in the upper 35 percent of their class, and completed at least three semesters of college work. Each one also must have genuine interest in Hispanic language and culture, and be of good moral character.
Honorees included: David Boone Jr., Denver; Coral Regalado-Santos and Victor Mora, Frankfort; Daniel de Jesus Dominguez, Lorena Luna-Santana and Lindsay Anne Holz, Kokomo, Karissa L. West, Peru; Katelyn Nicole Brandenburg and Cara Christine Brandenburg, Russiaville; and Katelyn Nicole French, Windfall.
Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing
The School of Nursing inducted 18 students into the Alpha chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing.
New members include Bachelor of Science in Nursing students Shelby Lee Delp, Crawfordsville; Tabitha Ray Hall, Forest; Alexis Katherine Berghoff, Abigail Elizabeth Fleenor, Ashley Breanne Ploughe, Kokomo; Nancy Dawson, Miami; Shelby Lynn Farmer, Noblesville; Trina Michelle Marks, Pennville, Rachel Kay Coombs, Russiaville; Lindsey Rose Dick, Tipton, Hannah Donovan, Walton; Mindy Lee Meyer, Westfield; and from the R.N. to B.S.N program, Marci Thomas, Chalmers.
M.S.N. students selected were Stacey Hancock, Noblesville; and Kathryn Marie Douglas, Peru
To be selected, students must meet rigorous standards, including a program grade point average of at least 3.5 on a 4.0 scale, rank in the top 35 percent of the graduating class, and meet the expectation of academic integrity.
