More than 100 north central Indiana employers are planning to participate in the spring Kokomo Area Job Fair set for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 20, at the Kokomo Event & Conference Center. The job fair is a partnership between Indiana University Kokomo, Ivy Tech Community College, Coca Cola Bottling Co, Indiana National Guard, Staffing Resources, Pioneer Cladding & Glazing Systems, and the event center, and is open to students, alumni and community members seeking part-time, full-time or internship positions.
The fair is open without charge and provides participants the opportunity to meet with employers and discuss potential job opportunities.
“Anyone interested in a full-time, part-time, internship, or even volunteer opportunity is provided a greater advantage by networking with prospective employers while attending this job fair,” said Tracy Springer, director of IU Kokomo’s Career & Accessibility Center.
“While we have had attendees get job offers at the job fair, job fairs aren’t necessarily about finding a job that day,” she continued. “The day is about building relationships and getting your name out there for a job that may open up tomorrow.”
Springer noted participants should be sure to dress in professional business attire and encouraged them to bring their résumé in case an employer asks for one.
Career fairs are great for networking, career exploration, and learning about what jobs are available. “Those who attend are encouraged to talk to as many employers as possible to optimize their job seeking potential and start making connections in the community” said Stephanie Reitan, career development coordinator at Ivy Tech Kokomo. Admissions officers from both Ivy Tech and IU Kokomo will also be on hand to talk about options for coming back to college to get the certificates or degrees that will open doors to new careers.
