FAFSA now open, important updates for Indiana students

INDIANAPOLIS – The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for the 2018-2019 semester is now open. The FAFSA is required for all students to be considered for federal and state grants, scholarships and student loans.

The open date to file moved from January 1 to October 1 in 2016, allowing students and their parents or guardians to use earlier income information to file.

For the 2018-2019 FAFSA, income and tax information from 2016 must be used.

Students may need a parent or guardian’s information when filing, depending on their dependency status.

To help students file their FAFSA, Ivy Tech Community College will be hosting a statewide Express Enrollment Day on Wednesday, October 25 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. During this event, the College will provide one-on-one assistance with enrollment steps and filing the FAFSA. For location information and to RSVP for this event, students can visit IvyTech.edu/eestatewide.

In addition, students and their families can participate in Indiana’s 29th annual College Goal Sunday on November 5, 2017. College Goal Sunday is Indiana’s largest FAFSA filing event with locations around the state, including several Ivy Tech campuses, that will have FAFSA experts on-hand to assist with the application process. Information and locations are available at CollegeGoalSunday.org.
