Indiana Secretary of State Connie Lawson Declares September 2017 National Voter Registration Month

INDIANAPOLIS – Indiana Secretary of State Connie Lawson today joins fellow members of the National Association of Secretaries of State (NASS) in reminding citizens that September 2017 is National Voter Registration Month.

Secretary Lawson is working with Indiana’s federal, state and local leaders to make eligible voters aware of registration deadlines, encourage increased voter participation and engagement, and promote state resources that are available to help with the registration process.

“One of my top priorities as Secretary of State is to ensure that every Hoosier voter is properly registered and informed about the voting process,” said Secretary Lawson. “Voting is a fundamental right and allows every citizen to have a voice in government. If you are unregistered, I encourage you to visit our website and submit an application right away. Those five minutes might be the most important you spend today.”

To register to vote in Indiana, visit www.IndianaVoters.com. There, Indiana residents can register, verify their registration, check their polling place, and look up contact information for local election offices.

The nation’s Secretaries of State established National Voter Registration Month in September as a non-partisan means of encouraging voter participation and increasing awareness about state requirements and deadlines for voting, establishing www.CanIVote.org to help voters find official state resources. Voters can help spread the word by using the hashtag #ReadyToVote on social media.

NASS also supports the independently-organized National Voter Registration Day effort, which will be held on September 26, 2017.  Secretary Lawson has served as President of NASS since July 2017.
