FEDCO offering restaurant training workshops

Fulton Economic Development Corporation’s BizGro program is offering “Serving Up Success”, a series of restaurant training workshops targeted at both start up and existing restaurant owners, concessionaires, caterers or those wanting to know more about the restaurant/food service business. Topics will include the basics of opening a restaurant, measuring profitability, your niche in the market, finding, hiring and retaining employees, creating a positive workplace atmosphere, and effective marketing. Don Vita of Hoosier Hospitality Consulting will lead the series. Don is a 25 year veteran of the restaurant industry. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management from the University of Wisconsin and has worked with several industry leading companies including Wyndham Hotels and Resorts, Holiday Inn Worldwide, Wolfgang Puck and Bon Appétit.

The 3-part series will be offered on the following dates: Mondays, April 17th, 24th, and May 1st, 9-11 am at Ivy Tech in Rochester. Participants can attend single sessions at $30.00 each or all 3 sessions for $75.00.

Amy Beechy, FEDCO’s consultant for entrepreneurship programs says this restaurant training series addresses a specific need, “Restaurants are vital to our quality of life and important for economic development but unfortunately restaurants rank as on one of the riskiest businesses; with a high failure rate. However, as with any business, we know that planning, education, and supporting management skills increases the chances of success dramatically and we know this training series will support these skills. Fulton County has enjoyed an increase in restaurants and food service businesses lately so the timing of this training is important for Fulton County and we hope restaurant owners in surrounding counties will take advantage of this opportunity as well.”
